Lincolnshire here we come

23rd

After a lovely couple of days with Henry and Steve at Henry's cottage on the Sandringham estate we set off to a pub stop at The Kings Head in Theddlethorpe, Lincolnshire.

We popped into B&Q to pick up some door magnet catches for the wardrobe door which broke a few days ago and Sue popped into B&M for some food and then we continued down the road and into the next county.

At about 20 miles out from our destination we stopped in a layby and had a coffee before carrying on to the pub stop.

We pulled into the pub car park ///airstrip.slogans.motivates and settled down for the evening. The pub was shut as the landlady was visiting her mum but we had beer in the van and she had told us to make ourselves at home, no charge..!

We made ourselves comfy and settled down for the night, all alone but we felt safe and it was quiet.

It was quiet all night until the farmers got up and started their day transporting their produce from A to B along the road next to our park up.

Breakfast and ablutions completed we hitched the trailer up and headed to the Churchill lane car park ///fried.narrating.hiker and walked along the dunes to see the tank on the beach. ///shot.ramming.crockery

This is a rusty ruin of a tank which apparently was used as target practice by the military and is on part of the Ministry Of Defence danger area.

From the tank we set off again and parked in the Queens park car park near the beach, ///button.slides.implanted and walked along the prom admiring the massive beach.

We decided to stay in this area tonight so after phoning the Kings head but failing to get through we parked in the car park again anyway and vowed to contact the landlady in the morning to offer payment.

As we were settling down a  nice VW camper parked next to us and the occupants made themselves at home and we relaxed.

Andy was up first, no surprise there, and got on with the morning duties. Once Sue surfaced we checked for park ups further up the coast and decided on a CL at Sycamore cottage near Goxhill a mile or so from the Humberbridge. ///ruins.magically.arrived as it had EHU and water facilities plus toilet and shower for £20!

Andy spoke to the landladys partner about payment for the last two nights at The Kings Head but he insisted that there was no charge at this time of year! Fantastic, thank you.

We pulled into the CL after crossing the railway tracks and were slightly disappointed as it looked a bit unkempt compared to the photos which we had seen on the website. However, we filled with water and parked on the cinder pitch using our ramps to level the van and plugged into the electric supply.

Sue got the air frier out and immediately noticed that it wasn't working properly, it kept switching off after a few seconds. Andy checked the EHU supply which was 10amps and all looked ok?!

We put the air frier away and Sue did the toast in the gas grill. And went to continue with the 'blue' jobs and then Sue called him in with panic on her face, there was a pop and hiss from the grill and she turned the gas off. We added this problem to the 'list of things to mend later' and finished our brunch.

This list so far included;

  1. Investigate gas pop in grill
  2. Replace broken bulb to cooker hood
  3. Check lighting fault, (side marker lights on off side had failed)

Andy had already fixed the wardrobe door catch by fitting a magnet catch, mentioned in previous page.

Grill was safe, we think that the glass lense from the broken cooker hood light had fallen down the back of the grill and exploded due to the heat of the grill.

Cooker hood bulb was replaced and after checking and finding a blown fuse caused by a loose side marker bulb and new fuse was fitted and the lights now work!

We settled down in the van with the diesel heater on (which Andy had repaired earlier) and hoped for a peaceful night.

With a railway no more than 20 metres away from the van our hopes were dashed, trains sped past until around 23:30 and once the last train had passed the rail workers arrived with chainsaws! There was work to be done and had to be done overnight but it only lasted and hour or so and then it was quiet until our neighbour arrived back to his van after his night shift on his unnecessarily loud motorbike!   AAARRRGGGHHH!

26th

Up at 08:00 and Andy started work on this blog until 10:00 and then we checked the apps to choose our next stop, which will be somewhere over the Humber bridge and into the east riding of Yorkshire so, we will continue on the next page,

'So, this is Yorkshire!'.
